Karen Sealy Named DEI Director, Chief Diversity Officer

Karen Sealy has been named Director, DEI & Chief Diversity Officer effective May 7. Karen leads the Human Resources Diversity, Equity & Inclusion team and will work closely with various DEI and culture groups across the company to further our strategy to embed our values, encourage inclusion, support our employees and move our culture forward.

Karen has been heavily involved in FirstEnergy’s DEI efforts – advancing efforts within the Legal department as well as companywide. She is a member of the DEI Council and the DEI event response team, which evaluates news and events that may have an impact on our employees and advises senior leadership on our company’s response. She is a past chairperson of the MOSaic Ohio EBRG and was instrumental in developing recommendations to accelerate the diversity of FirstEnergy’s workforce and advancement of racially/ethnically diverse talent. Additionally, she was a member of the team that helped develop FirstEnergy’s refreshed values.

Karen joined FirstEnergy in 2011 in the Legal group. In her most recent role as senior corporate counsel, she was responsible for negotiating and closing transactions to advance FirstEnergy’s strategy and objectives.

Karen brings strong leadership, an ability to influence and execute both strategically and operationally, financial acumen and a deep passion for this work – all key attributes necessary for her role and to continue to move our DEI initiatives forward.

She has been recognized as a Woman of Professional Excellence by the YWCA of Greater Cleveland (2021) and as a Who’s Who in Black Cleveland (14th edition). She is a member of the board of directors for Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital and serves on the Cleveland Clinic and Akron General Philanthropy Committees.

Karen holds a bachelor’s in business administration from Baruch College and a Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School.
