With a focus on safety comes a passion for people – a deep personal commitment to eliminating all harm to our workers and the public.
As one our core values, we strive to keep ourselves and others safe. When the day starts, we need to be prepared for any kind of potential danger.
That was the case last month when JCP&L Express Service Technician David Paine and Fourth Year Apprentice Cooper Quail approached a customer’s residence in Morristown, New Jersey.
Upon arrival, responding to a single no-lights call, the team smelled something burning and noticed smoke coming from the roof of the house.
They attempted to contact the customer but did not get a response. David continued to knock on the door for a reply. Eventually, the customer opened the door.
David then advised the customer to evacuate and was informed there was a woman inside. David and Cooper entered the actively burning house to help evacuate her and then called 911.
Prior to the arrival of emergency services, David and Cooper followed First Energy’s protocol and cut the power.
The Morristown fire department said the fire was due to a lightning strike.
Thanks to David and Cooper’s awareness and commitment to safety, the emergency was resolved without any injuries.
