Recently FirstEnergy employees who are also members of Black Greek lettered organizations contributed to the Black College Hall of Fame’s Education Day by reading to students at both Crouse Community Learning Center and Emmanuel Christian Academy in Akron, Ohio.

This was part of the Black College Hall of Fame Classic Weekend’s Reading Playbook Program. The book “Be Free! Just Do It Your Way” helps children identify their own voice by exploring things that allow them to be the best versions of themselves; free from conforming to outside expectations

Torey Tolson, corporate affairs & community involvement, reads to a group of children during Education Day.

Jasina Chapman, corporate affairs & community involvement says that this volunteer opportunity not only showcases FirstEnergy values in action but also helps teach young people how to be positive contributors to society.

Our presence in the school represents a community that cares about its young peoples and models the responsibility of giving back,” said Jasina. “These students will remember us as visitors who choose to spend time with them – because they matter that much. Feeling seen and cared for is invaluable in their development and nurtures a mindset of not only continued literacy but also giving.”
