Volunteers Come Together to Support Veterans

May 19, 2024

The Veterans and Allies PA East Employee Business Resource Group (EBRG), in collaboration with the Veterans Coalition of Pennsylvania commenced the start of Military Appreciation Month, which occurs each May, with a meaningful initiative.

Volunteers spent the day at a veterans’ home, which serves as a transition home for veterans who are at risk of homelessness or currently experiencing housing instability. The duration of their stay at the home is flexible, ranging from three days to three months, based on individual needs.

Each veteran is provided with a private bedroom and access to a shared bathroom. In addition to accommodation, the program offers mental health evaluations and financial education classes to support veterans in achieving sustainable independence after their time at the Veterans Support house.

The event saw dedicated volunteers undertaking tasks such as painting and yard work. The initiative brought together individuals from various locations across Met-Ed’s footprint, with representation from the Boyertown, Reading and Easton line shops.

This collaborative effort not only provided tangible assistance to the veterans’ home but also fostered a sense of unity and camaraderie among the volunteers. This event served as a poignant reminder of the importance of supporting our veterans and the impact that collective action can have in addressing critical issues faced by this community.

As we continue to observe Military Appreciation Month, let us carry forward this initiative’s spirit by finding meaningful ways to express our gratitude and support those who have served our country.
