Six employee volunteers with Toledo Edison’s Green Team helped keep their namesake city green and pristine this month by partnering with Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful to adopt a road.

A local non-profit organization, Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful is dedicated to improving community recycling and promoting litter prevention and neighborhood beautification projects.

“Our involvement with their Adopt-a-Road program began four years ago in 2021,” said Trina Myers, Customer Accounts Specialist V and Toledo Edison Green Team Co-Lead, who organized the partnership and cleanup event. “We volunteer twice a year to assist with roadside trash clean-up. It’s always satisfying and surprising to see how many bags of litter we’ve collected at the end of the day.”

June’s clean-up effort was located on a stretch of Angola Road surrounding Toledo Edison’s Holland Service Center. Joining Trina in the cleanup efforts were Toledo Edison Green Team members Gene Altenburger, Pete Dery, Matt Tussing, Chad Tremaine and Dick Stainbrook.

Together, the employees successfully collected 13 bags of garbage and found some unexpected roadside items in the process, including a discarded car bumper and a Styrofoam cooler.

“This event is something we look forward to every year,” said Trina. “The fact that it’s located in our own backyard – in the area surrounding Toledo Edison headquarters – makes it even more impactful. As employees we’re taking ownership and keeping the environment outside our doorstep a pleasant place to be.”
