Help FirstEnergy Light the Way Home for Customers
November 25, 2024
Although often overlooked, streetlights play an essential role in our communities. They support safety and security, and they help cities and towns project the image of being a thriving place that is open for business to residents and visitors.
It should come as no surprise that streetlight outages are most commonly reported in the fall months. As the days get shorter, customers are more likely to notice a light out on their street or to spot a dark section of road on their way home from work.
Ensuring that a community’s streetlights come on every night is very important from both a company and a customer perspective. Streetlights can help reduce crime in local neighborhoods, and they also send a positive signal to customers that we’re providing the service they expect and deserve.
As an employee, you can help us maintain reliable streetlight service by contacting your local utility company when you see a light out on your street or along a road. This is a critical first step in our efforts to make timely repairs. After a streetlight outage report is submitted, our line crews and troubleshooters make the repairs as quickly and as safely as possible.
Here are the best ways to report a streetlight outage:
- Call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) and say “streetlight” after the greeting.
- Report the lighting issue using an online form.
- Be prepared to provide the following information:
- Your name and phone number (in case additional details are needed).
- Address where the streetlight is located (nearest house or business address and the nearest cross street).
- Number on the utility pole.
- The problem with the streetlight (e.g., damaged pole, broken fixture, light flickers or is off at night/on during the day).
