A small but mighty group of Girl Scouts recently got an up-close look at nuclear power when they visited the Perry Nuclear Power Plant.
The June 15 visit was part of the five scouts’ efforts to earn their “Getting to Know Nuclear” badges.
NAYGN (North American Young Generation in Nuclear) members Mike Maier, Chris Paradiso and Ashley Sullivan, Engineering, along with Training Instructor Craig Adelizzi, were on hand to explain how nuclear power works. The scouts listened to a presentation and participated in a simulated Radiation Protection exercise before visiting the Control Room Simulator for a hands-on experience.
While the visit was intended as an introduction to nuclear power, it may have ignited some career aspirations. One of the scouts shared she now is thinking about pursuing a career as an electrical engineer.
