A West Virginia community booster organization has named FirstEnergy its Business of the Year.

Representatives of Clarksburg Uptown made the presentation at their annual meeting. Organization president Daniel Rogers said FirstEnergy was selected because of its continued community involvement and support for local projects in the Clarksburg area.

Tim Pingley, Regional External Affairs consultant, accepted the award.

“FirstEnergy feels that being a part of the community is good for our company, good for our customers, good for the region and we’re proud to be part of it,” Tim said.

The Harrison Power Station is one of the Clarksburg area’s largest employers, and all of its fuel is supplied by a local Harrison County mine. A 2018 economic impact study, conducted by West Virginia University, found that Harrison Power Station generates more than $1 billion in total economic activity in W.Va., including $26.3 million in state and local tax revenues.

In addition to the annual Harvest for Hunger campaign, Harrison employees volunteer for and support a number of local initiatives in the Clarksburg area, including the United Way Day of Caring, Christmas Angels and Clarksburg’s Autism Walk. On the transmission side, Clarksburg Uptown credited FirstEnergy’s Mon Power for assisting with numerous community improvement projects in Clarksburg, including street and sculpture lighting projects to enhance the city.
