Family Fishing Fun at Davis-Besse
June 17, 2019
The First Annual Beth Cousino Family Fishing Derby was held at one of the ponds on the Davis-Besse site the morning of Saturday, June 1. Numerous nuclear plant employees turned out with their children and grandchildren to take part in the fun.
The tournament has been going on for more than 20 years, but earlier this year the Davis-Besse Employee Association voted to rename it to honor one of its founders Beth Cousino. “It’s a labor of love every year and it was even more so this year since it now bears my mom’s name,” said Design Draftsman Sheila Pate, who succeeded her mother as the tournament organizer. “She must have been shining down on us as the sun poked through on what was supposed to be a cloudy and rainy day,” Sheila said.
Lunch was provided and prizes were awarded for the biggest, smallest and most fish in the catch-and-release tournament. “My kids started fishing here and they are still coming back and bringing their own families with them now,” Sheila said proudly.
