Highlighting Our Harvest

June 2, 2022

Our 2022 Harvest for Hunger Campaign was challenging, but we were still able to provide much-needed support to the food banks, pantries and other local community services that help address food insecurity throughout our service territory. Our employees rose to the challenge through their generous monetary donations and creative and safe fundraising events. Here are a few examples.

Employees at Ohio Edison’s Elyria Service Center held a cornhole tournament and a food truck event that raised more than $1,400, which equates to more than 7,500 meals for the campaign.

L.-r.: Brian Hatherill, supervisor, Regional Operations Line & Substations West, and Nick Katsaros, consultant, Regional External Affairs (r.), presented the check from the Elyria cornhole tournament to Susan Bartosch, Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio.

Toledo Edison employees held an “egg-cellent” fundraiser that resulted in more than $270! For the event, employees paid to have their yards “egged” for Easter. Coworkers then hid plastic eggs filled with candy around the yards the night before the holiday. The eggs, candy and Easter baskets were donated by employees, so all funds paid for the Egg Your Yard event could benefit the campaign.

Josie (l.) and Lucy (r.) Price are on the hunt! They are the daughters of Justin M. Price, manager, Distribution Planning & Protection.

Employees at Ohio Edison’s Massillon Line Shop literally pitched in to raise campaign funds. The cornhole tournament, coordinated by Amy Hopkins, consultant, Regional External Affairs, raised $240.

Toledo Edison employees raised funds for the campaign by operating concession stands at a Chris Stapleton concert (on behalf of Backpacks for Humans), and two Toledo Walleye hockey games. They raised a total of $1,734.

At the Stapleton concert are, l.-r.: kneeling Terry Killeen, manager, Regional External Affairs, and Dorian Myers (Trina’s son). Toledo Edison employees were able to hold a Harvest for Hunger fundraiser at Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park in Toledo. Urban Air also offered a special admission price for those attending the event – with our fundraiser receiving 20% of the day’s total proceeds. The event raised $1,112, which was donated to Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank.
