How You Can Help

As a result of his injuries, Luke is facing a long road to recovery that is expected to include additional surgery, therapy and rehabilitation. A close family friend, Brandy Napier, has started a GoFundMe account to help Luke’s family with ongoing expenses. If you would like to contribute, please click here.

“Our company is built around dedicated employees who show up for our customers and community. It’s no surprise to see FirstEnergy employees showing up for Luke and his family as he battles back from this horrific accident,” said Mike.

On Tuesday, Aug. 23, Luke Truman was traveling east on Route 30 in Mansfield, Ohio, when a west-bound dump truck crossed over the median hitting Luke’s bucket truck head on. Since Luke was traveling between two concrete barriers, he could not avoid the collision. Luke received critical injuries and the driver of the dump truck was fatally injured.

Luke was taken to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital and later transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus where he would undergo multiple surgeries.

“Luke continues to beat every challenge placed in front of him during recovery – through humility, positivity and a work ethic that is unmatched,” said Mike Falen, director, Operations, Ohio South. “Luke can’t wait to be back with his Ohio Edison family, and we’re honored to join his family and the community in supporting that goal.”

Luke joined the company as a lineman A at the Marion Service Center in May 2020. He became a line serviceman in January 2021 before transferring to the Mansfield Service Center in September of that year. Luke is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1194.
