Holiday ‘Light Up’ Recipients Announced

November 17, 2022

FirstEnergy will make the holiday season bright for three deserving communities – Pemberton, N.J., Elyria, Ohio and Summersville, W.Va. – with professionally designed light displays as part of our second-annual “Light Up Holiday Smiles with FirstEnergy” program.

The initiative will give the gift of holiday lights during the following festive community events:

  • JCP&LPemberton Township’s Reflections Park at the intersection of South Lakeshore Drive and Lakehurst Road, adjacent to the Mirror Lake Dam. A public lighting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 2, starting at 6:30 p.m., with the display expected to switch on at approximately 7:15. Refreshments and entertainment will help jump start the holiday spirit.
  • Ohio EdisonPioneer Plaza Park, located at 328 Broad St. in downtown Elyria. The public is encouraged to attend a park lighting ceremony from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30. Visitors can enjoy refreshments and other holiday festivities prior to watching the park light up with holiday magic at 6:20.
  • Mon PowerNicholas County Veterans Memorial Park along U.S. Route 19. The public is encouraged to attend a lighting ceremony and enjoy refreshments and other holiday festivities at the park on Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m., immediately following the city’s Christmas parade.

To qualify for the Light Up Holiday Smiles program, cities were required to be served by a FirstEnergy operating company and to be located in a county designated as facing economic difficulties. Interested communities were asked to submit statements outlining why they should be considered for the display, including local efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in the community.

Each city selected will be gifted this year’s light displays to keep and enjoy for many seasons to come as FirstEnergy continues its commitment to promoting vibrant and strong community – a tradition which supports togetherness and joy during the holiday season.
