FirstEnergy Reaches Settlement with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
January 3, 2023
Recently, the company reached a settlement with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that fully resolves a previously disclosed investigation into whether FirstEnergy had complied with a routine FERC accounting audit from 2019 through February 2022. The investigation was related to incomplete lobbying and governmental affairs expenditures concerning Ohio’s House Bill 6 that the company initially provided to FERC in 2019.
Though the company provided complete information to FERC in late 2020, FERC determined that the initial omission violated several regulatory requirements.
FirstEnergy fully cooperated with FERC during the investigation and will pay a fine of $3.86 million to the U.S. Treasury. The company has also agreed to two years of compliance monitoring by FERC’s Department of Investigations.
