Building Stronger Communities
March 1, 2023
From a live-wire trailer demonstration to FirstEnergy Foundation check deliveries, employees in our Ohio Edison service area have been busy.
The Elyria Township Emergency Association received a $2,500 FirstEnergy Foundation grant. The funds will be used to purchase updated training equipment for life-saving exercises that will benefit local fire departments.
GiGi’s Playhouse in Canton received a $1,000 FirstEnergy Foundation check. Since 2017 GiGi’s Playhouse has been supporting the Down Syndrome community by providing a place where members feel safe and can explore their abilities through proven programs with support and celebration.
Lisa Taddei, consultant, Regional External Affairs, and IBEW 1194 Warren Service Building employees presented the FirstEnergy/Ohio Edison Live Wire Safety Trailer demonstration to more than 160 attendees at the County Emergency Management Agency office. Morning and afternoon sessions were held for Trumbull County first responders, power technicians and road department employees. Attendees were able to ask questions, view the live electrical demonstration and receive handout materials. Lisa also discussed the FirstEnergy storm restoration process.
The FirstEnergy Foundation donated $7,500 to Golden String Inc.’s Gabba Camp. The money will assist in plans for a campus consisting of a lodge, 15 cabins, a clubhouse and swimming pool intended to provide recreational opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. There also will be a place for overnight stays and local vacation opportunities for these individuals. Our funds will go toward interior furnishings for some of these cabins.
