Chuck Jones Receives Humanitarian Award

The Cleveland Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) presented President and CEO Chuck Jones with its 2018 Humanitarian of the Year Award on Mon., Jan. 15, at Quicken Loans Arena. Pastor Aaron Phillips of the Sure House Baptist Church and the Reverend Theophilus Caviness of The Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church presented the award at center court before the tipoff of the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Golden State Warriors game.
The award was given on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which has added significance for the SCLC. The organization was formed by Dr. King in 1957 to coordinate and support non-violent action aimed at achieving social, economic and political justice.
Chuck was recognized for developing strong partnerships between community groups and corporations in Cleveland. Among other services, FirstEnergy provides job training and economic resources to the community as well as energy-efficiency programs for low-income customers.
Chuck accepted the award “…on behalf of our employees who provide vital services in Cleveland and all communities we serve.”
