Customer Shout-Out: Penelec

August 12, 2022

Preparing for winter can be a daunting task, but one Pennsylvania household is feeling secure about seasonal changes thanks to weatherization services it received through our WARM program.

WARM, which is administered by FirstEnergy in compliance with state requirements set by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, provides home energy conservation improvements and education to help income eligible customers save money by reducing their electric bills. No payment is required from participants for energy-saving measures they receive. Qualified participants must meet income guidelines and a minimum monthly usage requirement.

The following letter was sent to Michelle Stiner, executive director, Central Pennsylvania Community Action, praising the WARM program’s assistance and customer service:

Dear Ms. Stiner,

I am writing on behalf of my mother, who recently participated in the Clearfield County weatherization program. Last winter, she kept the thermostat between 65 and 70 degrees and still had to sit with a blanket on in the house. Another problem was the pipes would freeze in her laundry area – even though the room was heated.

I encouraged her to apply for the weatherization program through Central Pennsylvania Community Action. We both thought they would come, put some strips around the door and add some insulation to the attic. The staff at the Clearfield office went above and beyond what we ever could have imagined. We never realized she was losing heat in all the places they identified. They went through the house from top to bottom winterizing and adding safety measures like carbon monoxide detectors. I don’t want to say we are looking forward to winter, but – due to the improvements – I can say we aren’t dreading it either.

Everyone involved in the project was diligent and professional. They took interest in caring for my mother who has been a lifelong resident of Clearfield County. The staff treated her like she was family. They demonstrated the community in community action. Thank you for all the work and showing that it isn’t just a job. They really do care – and it was greatly appreciated.

Sincerely on behalf of my mother,

Steven Irwin
