The Veterans and Allies West Virginia Chapter EBRG recently hosted an event at Mon Power Headquarters

August 1, 2023

Several FirstEnergy employees recently participated in the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Send Off event, where northeast Ohio students who will attend HBCUs receive college supplies. FirstEnergy supports this event every year in partnership with the Cleveland Council of Black Colleges Alumni Association. This year’s event was held at Warrensville Heights Elementary School (CEI service area). Our team helped pack 70 trunks and assisted with distribution.

Our Veterans and Allies West Virginia Chapter EBRG recently hosted an event at Mon Power Headquarters featuring Jamie Summerlin, a West Virginia Marine Corps veteran who ran across the United States in support of veterans and veterans’ needs. Jamie shared his story which encompasses almost every one of our core values, including integrity, stewardship, performance excellence and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. More than 60 people attended in person and online.

In keeping with our core value of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, FirstEnergy recently sponsored an American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) networking event at Top Golf in Independence, Ohio (CEI service area). More than 50 guests from a variety of organizations, including FirstEnergy, Dominion Energy and Burns & McDonnell, attended. The event was held to continue to drive membership in the Northeast Ohio chapter of AABE and to begin the implementation of local programming which includes professional development, talent pipeline development for the energy industry and community outreach.

AABE is a national organization dedicated to ensuring the input of African Americans and other minorities into the discussions and developments of energy policies, regulations, research and development technologies and environmental issues. In 2011, the Northeast Ohio Chapter of AABE was founded by FirstEnergy, Dominion and AEP employees.

Attendees enjoyed refreshments before the program
