FirstEnergy is at a critical point in our journey to become a premier electric company – filling key leadership positions outlined in our new organizational structure that will allow us to better leverage the scope and scale of FirstEnergy and shift decision-making closer to our customers.
This week we appointed three FirstEnergy leaders into roles that are important to executing our business model and fulfilling our mission to provide safe and reliable service to our customers and communities. We continue to make solid progress with this effort, and with this announcement, we now have in place all five executives to lead our state businesses and FirstEnergy Transmission (FET).
Jim Myers, President, West Virginia & Maryland
Jim Myers, Vice President Operations for West Virginia and Maryland Operations, has been selected as President, West Virginia & Maryland, effective Dec. 15, 2024. He will oversee and be accountable for the operational excellence, financial performance and state regulatory strategy and outcomes for the company’s combined West Virginia/Maryland business unit, which includes regulated generation in West Virginia. Jim will report to Wade Smith, President, FE Utilities.
“We conducted a thorough search of internal and external candidates for a leader who has proven experience driving financial and operational performance,” said Wade. “Leading both Potomac Edison and Mon Power holds unique challenges and opportunities, and Jim has the knowledge, vision and continuous improvement mindset to help improve our safety and reliability metrics, enhance the customer experience and successfully execute on our capital investment plan to meet the needs of our customers at the local level.”
Sally Thomas, Vice President, Distribution Engineering & Planning
The company also announced that Sally Thomas has been named Vice President, Distribution Engineering & Planning, effective Jan. 12, 2025. Sally will report to Toby Thomas, Chief Operating Officer.
“Sally brings a wealth of experience, strategic leadership and a deep passion for innovation to this critical role,” said Toby. “She has a proven track record of driving technical excellence and delivering transformative solutions, which will be key in maximizing resources, ensuring a consistent approach and leveraging best practices across the organization.”
In this role, Sally will be responsible for setting strategic direction for the Distribution Engineering & Planning organization, including design, comprehensive and integrated planning and protection, reliability, engineering standards and specifications, asset/program management, joint use, and mapping and records.
Joe Storsin, Vice President, Transmission Finance
As previously communicated, the state and transmission business units will now have their own finance organizations. To support the stand-alone Transmission financial planning and performance organization, Joe Storsin has been named Vice President, Transmission Finance. Joe will report directly to Mark Mroczynski, President, Transmission, effective Dec. 15, 2024.
“With over 17 years of experience in FirstEnergy’s Finance organization, Joe has developed a deep understanding of FirstEnergy’s financials and how operational decisions impact financial performance,” said Mark. “Joe’s knowledge will be extremely valuable in helping us build the financial function the major business units – and will allow him to gain important financial leadership experience supporting a critical business segment.”
Also effective Dec. 15, the Business Services team currently reporting to Joe Storsin will move into the state or FET finance organizations given their direct support of those organizations.
Next Steps
We will continue to update the organization on a timely basis as announcements are made. Teams affected by moves will be informed prior to any broader organizational announcements. In the meantime, employees should continue to report as you do today and remain focused on working safely.
