FirstEnergy Receives 2019 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index Designation
January 17, 2019
FirstEnergy has joined the list of 230 companies selected for the 2019 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI), which distinguishes companies committed to focusing on women’s equality and fostering transparency in gender reporting.
The GEI’s standardized reporting enables participating companies to submit information related to four areas of gender equality – company statistics, employee policies, external community support and engagement, and gender-conscious product offerings. Companies scoring above a threshold are selected for the GEI.
“While FirstEnergy’s Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) initiative encompasses more than gender equality, our participation in the Bloomberg GEI will be a useful tool, allowing us to track our progress in gender diversity,” said Chris Walker, vice president of Human Resources. “Being transparent in our reporting shows how strongly we are committed to continuous improvement in the D&I area, developing employee policies and programs – like Employee Business Resource Groups – that promote equality, respect differences and encourage teamwork.”
Being a member of this index allows us to further differentiate ourselves with job-seekers and within the investment community. As more investors look for companies to identify their approach to environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors, the Bloomberg GEI is a readily available resource for investors providing the data they need to make well-informed decisions.
The companies included in the Bloomberg GEI span a variety of sectors, including communications, consumer staples, financial, materials, technology and energy companies such as American Electric Power, Dominion Energy, NiSource and Sempra Energy. Companies in the index do not receive a rank but are given a score to indicate progress from one year to the next.
