For decades The FirstEnergy Foundation has been dedicated to making a positive difference in the communities we serve by supporting non-profit organizations that make a real impact by enhancing the community’s vitality, sustainability, and diversity.

Recently, the local Habitat for Humanity chapter, Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity, received a grant from the FirstEnergy Foundation that supported their efforts in building a new home for single mom Diana Pita and her twin daughters, Adrianna and Arianna.

The family was selected in a lottery by the chapter, and a FirstEnergy Foundation grant was used to cover the costs of modifying the home to meet the family’s needs. Both girls were born with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy and will require wheelchairs.

The home was made wheelchair accessible, and a roll-in shower was installed, along with a therapy room. As part of their sweat equity, the family put in time and effort to build ramps and paint the walls their favorite colors. Volunteers took care of all necessary plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work. The local fire department also helped by watering the lawn after it was seeded. The home is in Manchester, New Jersey, in the heart of Jersey Central Power & Light’s service area.
