Winter is coming, and colder temperatures often mean an increased use in electricity – and some families in our service area may need a hand paying their utility bills. To help ease the financial burden, FirstEnergy has once again teamed up with the Dollar Energy Fund to support the 2024 Winter Warm Up Request-A-Thon.

The Request-A-Thon – hosted by Pittsburgh radio station 94.5 3WS – raises funds and awareness for people who need utility assistance during the winter months. FirstEnergy was a cosponsor of the event, and John Hawkins, President, Pennsylvania, visited the radio station to promote the initiative and explain how the money raised will help local families stay warm this winter.

Did You Know?

Over the past year, West Penn Power customers donated $142,500 to the Dollar Energy Fund. West Penn Power then matched those donations, bringing the total amount to $285,000. These funds helped more than 750 local families in need pay their utility bills.

“It was a pleasure being a guest on 3WS Radio Pittsburgh to support the Dollar Energy Fund’s Winter Warm Up Request-A-Thon,” said John. “FirstEnergy is helping to match all donations made, dollar-for-dollar, to provide utility assistance to Pennsylvania families in need.”

The Dollar Energy Fund provides utility assistance grants for those who qualify. The grants are applied directly to the customer’s utility bill, and the money supports people in local communities.
