The spirit of the holiday season is alive and well in Toledo – and employees helped make magic happen for local families in need of comforting, sustaining food for the Thanksgiving holiday week.

Volunteers from Toledo Edison helped out during Monroe Street Neighborhood Center’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway. Employees assisted with set up and organized stations, distributed food and handled tasks needed for the two-day event to be successful.

Monroe Street’s mission is to partner with the greater community to feed the hungry, strengthen and enrich families, provide physical fitness courses to seniors and bring high-quality housing to community members in financial need.

“Employees and their loved ones showed up to pack Thanksgiving dinner bags with all the fixings and distribute them to 164 local families this year,” said Taneaka Haley, Operations Manager, who organized Toledo Edison’s participation. “Participation continues to soar for this event. I am so grateful to work with people who truly care about the customers we serve in our community. Everyone worked hard with smiles on their faces the entire time.”

The food our employee volunteers distributed during the Thanksgiving giveaway was plentiful enough to last each family an entire week.

During the giveaway, our volunteers also educated participants on the assistance programs FirstEnergy offers, bringing more awareness to customers about Ohio Energy Choice and programs available to help low-income households with their energy costs.

To help offset costs for the organization’s event, Toledo Edison also presented a $2,400 check to Monroe Street Neighborhood Center, including a $1,200 donation matched with an additional $1,200 from FirstEnergy Foundation’s Matching Gifts Program.
