Sale of Bay Shore Generating Facility Closes
August 3, 2018
On July 31, 2018, Walleye Power, LLC, completed its purchase of the 136-megawatt Bay Shore Generating Facility and other retired assets in Oregon, Ohio.
As part of the transaction, Walleye Power assumed the contracts between Bay Shore Power Company (BSPC) and BP-Husky Refining, LLC (BP-Husky). Bay Shore Unit 1 is a circulating fluidized-bed boiler that burns petroleum coke, a by-product from the nearby BP-Husky refinery. BSPC also provides steam to the refinery operations.
Under terms of the definitive agreement, Bay Shore plant employees and some Shared Services employees affected by the sale were offered employment with the new owner.
“On behalf of FirstEnergy Generation, I’d like to thank the Bay Shore employees for their many years of dedication and support,” said Don Moul, president, FES Generating Companies and chief nuclear officer. “We wish them well for the future.”
